FAQ - Eyelash transplants

Here you can find frequently asked questions and our responses. This list of questions is updated constantly and extended.

What are the expenses of eyelash transplantation?

The costs depend on the scope of the treatment. The eyelash transplantation can, depending on the individual conditions and desires, differ regarding the scope and effort. Patients with a complete loss of hair have to expect higher costs than patients with only a partial loss of eyelashes. The eyelash transplantation also suits for a thickening or extension of the eyelashes. General costs for the treatment can be found on this website. We are pleased to offer you an individual calculation and planning in a non-binding and free of charge consultation.

Does everybody suit for eyelash transplantation?

The eyelash transplantation is a cosmetic procedure with a low rate for complications which can be performed for everyone without any problems. Only a few specific diseases have to be ruled out before.

  • Local or systemically diseases
  • Obsessive pulling out of eyelashes (trichotillomanias) has to be treated prior to a surgery so that the transplanted hair doesn’t get pulled out again
  • Wound healing dysfunctions like keloid formation and strong cicatrisation can have influences on the final results and the rate of growth. This can be verified in the course of a first consultation

Are complications during the eyelash transplantation to be expected?

The eyes will be protected by special protective lid. There haven’t been any complications during our surgeries. Complications after the transplantation are very rarely shown, too. Light to middle-graded swellings with a light haematoma formation might occur, but usually disappear after a few days.

Does the transplanted hair remain permanently?

Yes, the transplanted eyelashes will start to grow permanently. As the transplanted hair achieves a long length growth, the eyelash transplantation can also be used for an eyelash extension. The hair can be cut to the desired length.

When are the new eyelashes visible after the eyelash transplantation?

Due to the improvement of the transplantation technique in our medical practice, the transplanted hair will start to grow directly after the surgery. The eyelash thickening s visible only a few weeks later, which changes into a permanent growth. There will be about 3 cm long eyelashes after approximately 3 months. Treated patients are able to cut the new eyelashes to the desired length or let them keep on growing.

How naturally is the visible result after eyelash transplantation?

The transplanted hair will grow naturally, just like the original eyebrow hair and therefore achieve very natural outcomes. About half of the transplanted hair will have a stronger length growth than the natively hair. This can be matched through cutting the hair from time to time to the individually desired length.

How to extract the donor hair for eyelash transplantation?

The donor hair will be taken and transplanted separately by using the so called I-FUE-method. The I-FUE technique is currently the latest and gentlest technology for hair transplants, which has the following advantages:

  • No cut of a scalpel
  • No sutures and hence no scars
  • No bleedings
  • No pains after the surgery

How save is the procedure of eyelash transplants?

Eyelash transplants are a save technique with excellent and natural treatment outcomes. Usually only one session is necessary to reach the patients expectations.

What are the reasons for the loss of eyelashes?

In many cases, the following reasons for the loss of eyelashes are given:

  • Physical trauma, e.g. caused by an accident, thermal, chemical or electrical burns
  • Local or systemically diseases
  • Natively low thickness of eyelashes
  • Self-inflicted obsessive pulling out of the eyelashes (trichotillomanias)
  • Medical or surgical treatments, e.g. radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical extraction of tumours
  • Alopecia areata

I suffer from circular loss of of hair and have lost parts of my eybrows and eyelashes. What opportunities do I have to get my hair back?

After a disease of alopecia areata, new hair should start to grow again after one year. After these 12 months, the chance for a spontaneous healing by itself is very low. In this case, I believe that a surgical treatment for both (eyelash and eyebrow transplants) are a very promising treatment method.

Due to the daily usage of artificial eyelashes, my eyelashes are busted and thin so that I cannot leave the house without eyelashes, applied with glue to my lids. Do eyelash transplants help me?

To affix artificial eyelashes with glue leads – in the medium run – to a thinning and shortening of the eyelashes. This damage is, in most of the cases, irreparable.

Eyelash transplantation is the only method which can help you to get back a natural and beautiful growth. You should take this opportunity before you damage the eyelashes until a complete loss of hair.

How high is the growth rate after an eyelash transplantation?

You can reckon with a growth rate of more than 95% after the eyelash transplantation.

I do not live in Germany. How much time should I plan for an eyelash transplantion in your centre?

You only have to spend one day for the treatment. After the surgery, you are able to travel and fly, but it is not allowed to drive a vehicle.
